Young Enterprise

Young Enterprise has been a successful Year 12 extra curricular activity for many years. We have had outstanding success with companies such as 'Silver Service Waiters' and 'CCS' attending the National Finals of the competition in London over the past few years.

Teams of Year 12 boys set up their companies in the September of their Lower Sixth year. The teams consist of between 10 & 16 boys. They run their company as a proper business through the auspices of the Young Enterprise organisation who enable them to have a business account with HSBC and appropriate insurance cover. Over the years the companies have moved from being mainly production based, to being mainly in the service sector.

Sharp Service Waiters were a company that would hire themselves out to businesses & families to deliver any catering needs for their events. CCS was a company that trouble-shooted computer problems in the domestic & business markets.

Both companies acquired an excellent reputation for their services and CCS carried on as a limited company for a couple of years after their participation in the schools' competiton had finished.

The first round of the competition is in March & successful companies go on to represent Wycombe in May. If successful they continue to Regional & National competitions in June & July.

Other companies who have also been successful include Rent-a-Mentor, Instant Aquariums, Off-Pat and Spotlight Advertising.

Each year we allow two teams to take part. Each is guided by two business advisors and a link teacher. We meet for a board meeting once a week and the teams meet at other times amongst themselves. The business advisors are key to our success and many have been associated with the school as either old boys themselves or as parents of boys at the school.

The business skills that the boys learn are second to none and many boys have gone on to run their own successful companies as a career. Indeed, it is well known how valuable the Young Enterprise experience is in equipping young people for the world of work, and we our proud of the success that we have had.
