Exchanges and Trips
The German department has one of the longest running exchanges in the country. For 45 years we have had a successful relationship with the Ratsgymnasium in Osnabrück. Boys in Years 9 and 10 are matched with a partner for a one week visit; the Germans come in November and we return in April each year.
Our Headmaster Mr Page has also taken part in this exchange trip. Pupils in Years 9 and 10 from the RGS and Pipers Corner are matched with German partners. We visit places such as Bremen, Münster and Köln. The pupils also spend time in school and attended lessons.
Every year approximately 25 Year 10 pupils participate
in a Spanish exchange trip to Barcelona. During the week they are given many
opportunities to get a real feel for both the language and the culture of the
subject they are studying. Main sightseeing points include La Sagrada Familia,
Parc Guell and Camp Nou, as well as a day in school learning Spanish and taking
part in the annual sports competition. The students find this trip very
rewarding as it gives them first-hand experience of living with a Spanish
family and bringing to life all that they have learnt about in the classroom.
