Year 6/7 Transition

Everybody worries sometimes...

We go to great lengths to make the transition from primary school to RGS maths as seamless as possible, including organising primary visits and contributing to induction days. Everyone feels a little nervous when they change schools but as long as you bear in mind the following points, you should enjoy your new adventures in mathematics:

  • Your maths teacher doesn't bite (probably)! If you aren't sure about a topic or about what you are supposed to be doing, don't suffer in silence - just ask...
  • Ask questions (have we said that already?). Even Einstein didn't know what he was doing sometimes - you will get the most out of lessons if you think hard and then ask questions...
  • Use every available bit of help. You have available a wealth of resources, including but not limited to: your teacher; other teachers; your parents; other students; mentors (speak to your teacher to find out more); websites (e.g. Mymaths, BBC Bitesize); your textbook; your notes...
  • Maths is hard but not impossible! You are supposed to struggle a little, otherwise you would not be learning anything - so don't give up when the going gets tough...
