From Monday 22nd February, we will be introducing a new system of cashless payment in the canteen.

The following is the text of the letter sent home to all parents explaining the changes:

Dear Parents

You will be aware that RGS operates a cashless card system for the catering service and the school shop. The present card system is now 10 years old and the software and hardware systems are quickly failing.

It is our wish to continue to provide and improve the system we offer to the boys and taff. We have researched the market and have concluded that the best system for RGS would be to expand the biometric system presently used in the school library.

There is no doubt that many boys are deterred from using the Dining Room because of the length of the queues. This system will be much more efficient, faster and generally more user friendly.

The system will start in operation on Monday 22 February. From this day, no cash can be accepted at the food counter ‘Till Point’. To enable this to happen we will be taking the fingerprints of boys on 10, 11 and 12 February 2010.

For your convenience and to assist us in our administration of the service, a method of payment by cheque will be introduced. Cheques should be made payable to ‘Caterlink’ and placed in the Post Box provided in the Dining Room. Please write your son’s full name and form on the back of cheque and place in an envelope. Cheques must be placed in the Post Box before 9.15am. Payment received after this time will not be processed until the following day.

Any amount of money can be paid into your account held within the system, money spent on food will be taken out of the system. Boys can check their account by using the revaluation terminal.

The School is also able to provide parents with a report detailing each item of food served, each credit made to the system, for any time period and show a current balance.

There is a daily ‘spend limit’ programmed into the system of £5.00, this can be increased or decreased for an individual pupil by making a written request to the Dining Room. This may be necessary for purchase of uniform and other more expensive items from the School Shop.
