SPORT & PE at RGS
The R.G.S HW SPORT & PE Department is a strong, enthusiastic and forward thinking team, which comprises 6 full-time PE specialists and two PE gap students.

All members of the department contribute to the excellent delivery of the National Curriculum & A Level Physical Education as well as a full commitment to our extensive & rapidly expanding extra curricular sports programme.
In addition, a huge number of other staff teach Games or are involved in the delivery of the school’s extra curricular programme.

R.G.S sport has a proud tradition of maintaining a high standard in competitive schoolboy sport. With highly consistant results across all sports, RGS aims to give the best possible coaching and facilities and it expects the best back, to continue this tradition.
Rugby is the main sport during winter, turning out 18 teams every Saturday. RGS enjoys plenty of success in Rugby, consistantly making the final rounds of the Daily Mail Cup and enjoying one of the toughest fixture lists in the country. RGS also boasts a fine pedigree of international players, including Tom Rees, Matt Dawson and Nick Beal.
Hockey, is an increasing force at RGS, and although still growing in size, has already enjoyed considerable success at U16 and U18 indoor and outdoor competitions.
R.G.S operates under a 'four tiers of participation' system, to cater for all types of ability and commitment and to get the best out of the individual.
Elite Sport
RGS students have the opportunity to represent the school in 10 sports on a local, regional and national level.
Inter-Form Sport
All students have opportunities to compete for their forms in a competitive sporting environment. Inter form sports are run throughout the year. Fair play and sportsmanship are widely promoted through the inter form system.
Recreational Sport
All students have access to recreational sports clubs where the emphasis is on friendly competition and exercise. These clubs run at lunchtimes and after school.
Curriculum
All RGS students access 2 hours of compulsory Physical Education per week up until year 12. There is also the option to study Physical Education to A level in years 12 and 13.
