RGS Rowers Compete in British Rowing Indoor Championships
Saturday 7th December saw the annual British Rowing Indoor Championship with 18 RGS Rowers joining around 2000 junior and adult competitors.
Saturday 7th December saw the annual British Rowing Indoor Championship with 18 RGS Rowers joining around 2000 junior and adult competitors. BRIC is an inclusive all-age event including para, adaptive and Invictus categories; with junior entrants from year 7 up to adult categories with rowers in their 80s. Entrants were anything from first-time racers through to GB rowing stars with world records being were set.
The boys set off early to the Velodrome on the Olympic park to race in timed and distance races culminating in team relays. Duncan Huntley, year 13, came sixth in the Junior Men’s Sixth form 500m event, the field had over 50 racers including boys from the GB start programme. Duncan was just 4 seconds off the winning time of 1min 21sec. Jimmy Partington, year 12, came 12th just 6.5 seconds off first place.
In the Year 9 4min event, we had Fraser Heppel and Archie White came in the top 20 in a field of over 80. Fraser covered 1103m and Archie 1078, the winning distance was 1166. They went onto row again the 500m event where Fraser came 11th and Archie 19th.
