Representational Sport

Athletics
These take place during lunch times in the summer term using our athletics facilities and are designed for students who aspire to represent RGS in Athletics or would like to develop their track and field skills. The Athletics fixture list consists of competing in the District league, District Cup and the U13 and U15 English Schools’ Athletic Association Competition.

These sessions are delivered by the Head of Athletics and will help develop the key skills and understanding to perform middle distance running both recreationally and in a competitive environment.

Badminton
These sessions are held at break time throughout the year in the Sports Hall and are designed for students who have aspirations to represent RGS in Badminton or would like to learn more about the sport.

These sessions help develop the key skills and game understanding to perform in a competitive environment.

The Badminton fixture list consists of fixtures against local schools as well as entering National Competitions.

Cross Country
These sessions are delivered by the Head of Cross Country and will help develop the key skills and understanding to perform middle distance running both recreationally and in a competitive environment. The Cross-Country fixture list consists of local races and entering National Competitions.

These sessions take place during lunch times in the first two terms outside on our pitches and are designed for students who aspire to represent RGS in Cross Country or would like to develop their running skills.

Fencing 
These sessions are held after school throughout the year in the Sports Hall and are designed for students who aspire to represent RGS in Fencing or would like to learn more about the sport.

The Fencing fixture list consist of weekly bouts against some of the top independent schools in the country, with the season culminating at the National Public Schools Fencing Championships at the end of March.

All of the RGS Fencing coaches are experienced and qualified to teach the three weapons Foil, Epee and Sabre. Students are usually encouraged to start with foil as there are a greater number of Foil events on the fencing calendar and the technique and tactics of foil are the best common denominator for the three weapons.

Wednesday After School Sessions
These sessions are open to Year 8 and 9 students new to fencing. Year 7s with previous fencing experience will be considered. These sessions are delivered by a qualified coach and help develop the key skills and understanding to perform in a competitive environment.

Thursday After School Sessions
These sessions are aimed at Year 9 and above, but all experienced intermediate fencers are welcome. These sessions are again delivered by a qualified coach and will help further developed the key skills and understanding to perform in a competitive environment. 

Fives
These sessions take place in the first two terms of the year on our Fives courts and are designed for students who have aspirations to represent RGS in Fives or would like to learn more about the sport.

These sessions are delivered by an external coach and will help develop the key skills and game understanding to perform in a competitive environment.

The Fives fixture list consists of fixtures against top independent schools as well as entering National Competitions which mostly take place on weekends. 

Handball
These sessions take place after school in the first two terms in the Sports Hall and are designed for Year 8 and Year 10 students who aspire to represent RGS in Handball or would like to learn more about the sport.

The Handball fixture list consists of fixtures against local schools as well as entering the U13 and U15 National Competitions.

These sessions are delivered by a qualified Level 2 Handball coach and will help develop the key skills and understanding to perform in a competitive environment.

Rowing
The Royal Grammar School High Wycombe Boat Club is for juniors between the ages of 13 and 18 and is a sculling club. The RGS Rowing Club is very well supported by the school, parents of the boys as well as a team of committed and hardworking coaches. With a steadily growing interest from students as well as growth in the fleet available, the club currently have approximately 100 active members.

Crews compete in various competitions throughout the year with the Heads racing format forming the initial half of the school year followed by the regatta format for the second half of the season. To enter any event the students must be registered with British Rowing, this is an annual membership and can be done online via British rowing (http://www.britishrowing.org).

Sessions take place after school in the Ergo room during the winter months and out on the water at Longridge during the summer. The sessions are designed for students who aspire to represent RGS in Rowing or would like to learn more about the sport.
All sessions are be delivered by qualified coaches and will help develop the key technical rowing skills and required components of fitness to perform in a competitive environment. 

Squash
These sessions take place after school in the first two terms at Wycombe Squash club and are designed for students who have aspirations to represent RGS in Squash. The Squash fixture list consist of fixtures against local schools and entering National Competitions.

These sessions are delivered by qualified coaches at Wycombe Squash Club and will help develop the key skills and understanding to perform in a competitive environment.

Physical Education
kit, and indoor squash shoes are required.  

Swimming
These sessions take place in our 25-metre swimming pool throughout the year and are designed for students who aspire to represent RGS in Swimming or would like to develop their lane swimming. The Swimming fixture lists consists of entering the U13, U15 and U18 Hertfordshire Swimming League as well as the English Schools’ Swimming Association Competition.

These sessions are delivered by qualified coaches and will help develop the key swimming skills and understanding to perform in a competitive environment.

Tennis
These take place after school in the summer term on the Astro and are designed for students who aspire to represent RGS in Tennis. The Tennis fixture list consists of fixtures against local schools as well as entering the U13 and U15 Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) Competition.

These sessions are delivered by qualified coaches and will help develop the key skills and understanding to perform in a competitive environment.
