Boarding at RGS

To ensure a comprehensive boarding experience for our students, we offer a wide range of organised weekly activities for boys to take part in.

Here at RGS, we are privileged to be able to provide accommodation for up to seventy boarders aged 11-18 within our modern, purpose-built boarding house, Fraser Youens.

Constructed just before the new millennium, our accommodation, facilities and the overall boarding experience we provide is consistently rated as outstanding by our students. The comfort of the boys in our care is central to every aspect of boarding life and we are delighted to say that our staff and boarders alike share a true sense of family and community, ensuring a genuine ‘home from home’ experience.

Over the past decade, our boarders have consistently outperformed our day students in academic results, with recent leavers achieving over 90% at A*-B at A-Level and almost 80% at A*-A grades at GCSE. Boarding at RGS allows our boys to benefit from extra time studying, which would otherwise be spent travelling to and from school, as well as the opportunity to participate in the wide range of activities available in and out of traditional school hours. The ability to socialise, enjoy in-built free time and have access to continuous academic and pastoral support is core to the success of our boarding students.

Our highest priority has, and will always be, the welfare of our students and as such, we strongly believe that boarding should not be a separation from family but instead an extension of family. Throughout their time at RGS, our boarding students will benefit from being at the core of a working partnership between their parents and our staff, designed to both nurture and promote success.

We strive to promote a feeling of family community throughout Fraser Youens and we actively encourage many of our boarders help lead this community within both the house and school.

  • Debbie Mynett

    Boarding Administrator

Debbie left Keele University in 1998 and started her career as a retail graduate management trainee with Sainsbury’s. She enjoyed managing people so much she pursued a route into a HR team in a store. Whilst working as an HR manager she gained a postgraduate diploma in HR with the CIPD. A long career followed with rich experiences in the field but was made redundant after 19 years, as Sainsbury’s transformed retail HR. This opened another door for her to change her work life balance and join the team at Fraser Youens House.

In the summer holiday of 1997 she travelled throughout Canada and met a British chap in a customs hall in Seattle, little did she know he would end up as her husband and father of her two young daughters Nieve and Jessica.  After marrying in 2002 their love of travel continued for 10 years, skiing in Canada, exploring New Zealand and the Caribbean to mention the highlights. After a brief pause whilst the children were small they have recently returned to this passion most recently visiting Lake Garda last year with the children.

Debbie is a local person who was born in High Wycombe and has lots of family members in the area. When she is not travelling she is a busy mum who runs, bakes and gardens but enjoying growing flowers especially and is a Governor at Holmer Green First School and Pre-School.
