Sport Impact Report 2024
Sport is a fantastic vehicle for learning and mastering behaviours which can be translated into all walks of life. At RGSHW, our overarching purpose for sport is clear; to build the positive character traits that transcend far beyond the sporting environment. Character isn’t something we are born with, it is developed over a period of time through a range of different experiences. Whether RGSHW students and teams win, lose or draw, it is essential that their experiences help develop the character traits needed to succeed, including those of resilience, being grounded, selfless and honest, the cornerstones of the RGSHW Way.
For successful outcomes, participation is key, with the right balance between challenge and support for all involved. We are privileged to see the impact that great teaching and excellent co-curricular opportunities can have, even in the relatively short time students are with us. By creating a positive association with sport and physical education, our aim is to encourage and inspire pupils to pursue a lifelong interest in sport, health and fitness.
We are extremely proud of all that our students have achieved this year. Within Year 7 to 10, 91% of pupils participated in co-curricular sport, 70% of pupils represented the school in at least one sport and we have seen significant team and individual achievements in multiple sports.
Finally, we would like to acknowledge and thank RGS staff for their dedication and commitment, students and parents for their energy and enthusiasm and all of our donors and volunteers for their generosity of funding and time. Thank you to all our stakeholders for your wholehearted support of RGSHW Sport, the collective impact of which is demonstrated in this report.
