Spring into Wellbeing at RGS!

RGS buzzed with positive energy this week as students and staff embraced our annual SPRING Wellbeing Week. Focusing on Skills, Physical Activity, Relationships, In the moment, Nutrition, and Giving, the week offered a diverse range of activities designed to boost mental and physical wellbeing across all year groups.
The week kicked off on Monday with an exciting Skills workshop for Year 7. The talented team from Shooting Stars Circus Skills captivated students, teaching them a variety of impressive feats. From mastering the art of juggling colourful balls and whizzing diabolos to the more challenging task of balancing on a unicycle, the workshop was filled with laughter, concentration, and a real sense of achievement.
Tuesday saw Year 10 delve into the crucial link between Physical Activity and improved wellbeing. Following a thought-provoking session exploring the benefits of exercise for both body and mind, students enthusiastically participated in a games session. The diverse range of activities on offer ensured there was something for everyone, from the intensity of CrossFit to the refreshing splash of swimming and the camaraderie of a football match.
On Wednesday, Year 8 focused on the vital role of Relationships in maintaining positive wellbeing and mental health. The session, expertly led by neuroscientists from Action Your Potential, provided students with valuable insights into building healthy connections with themselves and others. Interactive activities encouraged self-reflection and fostered an understanding of the positive impact strong relationships can have.
After two days of adventurous trekking in the Chilterns for their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award, Year 9 were treated to a relaxing Thursday focused on being In the moment. Through calming yoga and mindfulness exercises, students learned practical techniques to manage stress, improve focus, and appreciate the present. The session provided a welcome opportunity to relax and recharge after their outdoor expedition.
The week culminated today with Year 12’s weekly lecture series, which fittingly addressed the importance of living healthily through good Nutrition and regular physical activity. This informative session equipped our senior students with valuable knowledge to make informed choices about their wellbeing. Adding to the positive atmosphere, the school also held a casual clothes day, which proved to be a resounding success. Thanks to the Giving of students and staff, we are delighted to say that a four-figure sum was raised for our chosen charities, the Molly Rose Foundation and MIND.
The SPRING Wellbeing Week has been a fantastic opportunity for the entire school community to prioritise their wellbeing and learn valuable skills and strategies for a healthy and happy lifestyle. The positive feedback from students and staff alike highlights the success of the week, and we look forward to continuing to foster a culture of wellbeing at RGS throughout the year.
