About

Our Senior Team

The Headmaster, Philip Wayne, joined RGS in 2015 having been Head of Chesham Grammar School for 8 years.  He studied Music at the University of Manchester. The Headmaster is very proud of the RGS community and thrives on his aspiration and restlessness to pursue constant improvement.

Deputy Headmaster Iain Wilson studied at Sheffield University.  Having been educated at Aylesbury Grammar School, Iain could be described as a Bucks boy through and through. In fact, the only time he has ventured further afield both academically and professionally was to the University of Sheffield where he studied Neuroscience and began his teacher training. He started his teaching career at Dr Challoner's Grammar School and subsequently an Assistant Headship at the Royal Latin School in Buckingham. As a keen sportsman, he values the importance of physical activity on mental health and wellbeing and this provision at RGS was one of the factors that drew him to our school. Respect, integrity and aspiration are values that he feels passionately about and embodies innovation at every opportunity.

Director of Boarding and Assistant Head, Jon Scourfield studied Physical Education and balanced the early part of his teaching career alongside playing professional rugby league.  He has had considerable experience within the pastoral aspect of RGS, both for our youngest and oldest students, having previously been Head of Year 7 and Head of Sixth Form. Jon led the rugby at RGS for almost a decade, has been involved for over twenty years and still coaches the senior forwards. Jon believes that boarding offers unique opportunities to further develop the character and social skills of our young men.  Whether it be Sport, Music, DofE, CCF or the myriad of other co-curricular opportunities on offer at RGS, it is the development of the whole person that makes RGS such a positive environment for our students.

Assistant Head Dave Durning joined the RGS in 2009, as an NQT. He studied Business at University and has held roles as Business Studies Subject Leader, Head of Year 10/11 & Head of Student Development, before taking up his current role. His main responsibilities are Student Development and Safeguarding. Dave is very proud to work at RGS and delights in supporting the school's vast co-curricular programme.

Assistant Head Tim Fossey has joined the Senior Team this September having recently completed 10 years with the school he began his teaching career with. He has previously been a Boarding Tutor and Maths Assistant Subject Leader and most recently the Head of Year 8/9 for the previous 5 years. Tim is now responsible for Data and Reporting within the school. He is a passionate supporter of RGS’s co-curricular programme and firmly believes the more opportunities we can give our students, the faster they will find that spark of passion and belonging that inspires them to succeed in all they do.

Assistant Head Sabrina Lawson joined the RGS in 2009. Her main responsibilities are Teaching and Learning, Staff Professional Development and Initial Teacher Training Coordinator. She believes strongly that giving staff the opportunities for professional development will always benefit our students. She studied German and Spanish at Manchester University and did her PGCE at Exeter University. She has had several roles at RGS including Subject Leader for Spanish, Head of Modern Foreign Languages and Associate Assistant Head. As a keen traveller, Sabrina has also spent a lot of her time here organising and running co-curricular activities for the students and has participated in many World Challenge trips.

Assistant Head and Director of Sixth Form Grant Sheehan studied History at King’s College London and after working in the private sector, began teaching in 2013. He has worked locally in selective and non-selective schools in various roles including both academic and pastoral and is committed to achieving excellent progress for all students. His main responsibilities are for leading the Sixth Form team, Innovation and Pupil Premium. He believes that it is an incredibly exciting time to be working in the Sixth Form and he looks forward to it becoming coeducational in September 2025.

Associate Assistant Head, Mrs Shradha Tan, has been an academic member of staff at the RGS for over 20 years and in this time has held a number of posts ranging from being an Advanced Skills Teacher in MFL, Director of Language College to being the Assistant Director of Sixth Form since 2011.  She has always championed the education of students at RGS and has developed many initiatives that have contributed to the breadth of opportunities that are on offer to the students in the Sixth Form.  Mrs Tan is currently studying for a Counselling Diploma and is learning to play the saxophone.

Finance Director, Adrian Jones, is an FCCA (Fellow member of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), and during his 25+ year career, has enjoyed a progressive Board-level career, creating and driving the strategies to turnaround and add value to businesses by creating the solutions that maximise cost efficiency, revenue, operational performance, and drive reputation and expansion across global corporate organisations.
